Mick O'Malley of the Residents Association has asked for contributions for the next Moorpool Duck. Please email them to mromalley@hotmail.com

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING ANNOUNCED

....a Special General Meeting of the
Residents Association, [is] to be held on 14/6, at 7.30 p.m., in The Moorpool
Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to seek the views of residents as to
whether they wish to form a Consultative Committee to put their views to
Grainger, and also to determine whether there is support for a Community
Trust. Please note that it will NOT be within the remit of the SGM to
discuss Grainger's plans ( if Grainger stick to their word (?), there will
an opportunity for this at another time ), and that the meeting is open to
residents only.

Mick O'Malley.

A Group to directly address Grainger's plans is a good idea, but will Grainger talk to them? Rob Sutton has asked about this on more than one occassion and got no reply. And we need much more information on the costs of a Trust before any decision can realistically be made. I have written to them asking this (among other things) and received no response. Can we get this information from Grainger before the 14th?

A Consultative Committee may be a good idea to enable residents to put their views across in a more formal manner.

However, I think people should think long and hard before agreeing to the idea of a Community Trust. Grainger's have offered to gift the assets which are the hall, bowling green, pool etc. to such a trust. The buildings are ageing and have suffered from a lack of investment over the years. They also do not comply with much of today's Health & Safety and Disability Discrimination legislation. It sounds to me as if Grainger's are basically proposing to gift all the non-profitable elements of the estate! The Trust may be inheriting a liability!

To quote Grainger's response to one of the questions raised in the circular which was recently distributed:-

“We want to further enhance the existing popular facilities by both contributing to their refurbishment and establishing a source of funds to ensure their long term benefit to the local community.”

Has anyone had any details of these funds and refurbishment plans? AH is correct - we need much more information before making any decision. A Consultative Committee may therefore be the best forum to discuss such matters.

At a Special General Meeting of the Residents Assocation, it was agreed to establish a working group to develop a separate resident's body to directly address issues of future development on the Estate. I was elected Chair of this group who's first task will be to create a democratic and representative structure to elicit the views of all the residents on their future.
We will be developong a web site and contact emails in the very near future and I will post the details here. We will also be conducting a survey to elicit residents views on future development plans. Your answers will be confidential and only the collated data will be made available and used in discussions with the local authority and Grainger.
