Grainger may change the public meeting!

A posting has appeared that suggests Grainger PLC want to change the format of the meeting.

This change must be confirmed by Grainger PLC in writing to all residents, including Wentworth Road and Pereira Road.

•Is this the best way to conduct a public consultation?
•Is it acceptable to have a public consultation where no public presentation is made?
•Have Grainger PLC really got enough staff to deal knowledgeably with individual enquires in 6 hours?

If graingers are to change the time and format of the meeting, this must be put in writing to all residents beforehand. Otherwise all residents without access to the internet, and those who havent read this blog, will turn up as expected. Having said that, it seems graingers seem to be taking the wimps way out in a very crafty way, avoiding all sort of confruntation. They are spreading the hundreds of peopele with strong views out over the whole day, probarbly to create many "mini-arguments". If I am correct, there are not many employees for grainger in the Harborne area - will they really be able to handle this. I believe we should just turn up as planned.

For reference here's what has been suggested. This is a copy of Tim Nicholson of Grainger PLC posting:

Dear Moorpool Residents

OPEN MEETING WITH GRAINGER THIS SUNDAY 20TH MAY

Following a number of calls from residents, we have been advised that we should change the format of this Sunday’s meeting to ensure we can accommodate everyone comfortably, and engage in detailed individual as well as group discussions with all interested parties.

To that end, we’re proposing that we host a drop in event from 10am – 5pm in the Community Hall. We will have all the plans on display to discuss with people wanting to hear more and so that we can listen carefully to people’s views, ideas and objections.

If you would like to pre-book a session, please contact us by calling 01235 433 520.

We look forward to meeting you this Sunday. Please also feel free to make contact with us direct at any time.

Yours sincerely

Tim Nicholson

The problem, of course, with sites like this, is that anyone can post anything in anybody's name. How do we know this post is from Graingers and not just some mischief-maker. If the time and format is to be changed then it must be notified to all residents so that those without Internet access are not disenfranchised.

I must say I hadn't thought of the possibility of somebody having posted in graingers name. Although it does seem very 'coincidental' that the meeting has been altered at the very time that they have realised we are really onto them!

We all better ring soon or we'll be waiting in a queue all day. I understand they're book well into the afternoon now.

I wonder if they'll have enough people who know enough about the plans to answer all the questions? Can Tim Nicholson answer questions for the landscape architect or building design issues?

I'd be interested to know whether all the appointment slots have been used up. Has anyone been turned away yet?

Keep phoning everyone!

on the basis that appointments have been made by various people, I guess that we can discount the theory that it's not graingers posting! nice theory though...

I am concerned by the proposed change in format. Changing the event into a drop-in allows Grainger to diffuse tension more easily - ie. soft soap concerned residents on an individual basis, and will allow them to record the meetings. There are a number of informed professionals in and around the estate who would be better able to voice the shared concerns of the estate at a general meeting. Raising ones concerns at a general meeting may have more impact leading to a harder attitude from the planners.

At a very rough tally, well over 80 comments have been posted. If 80 people wish to see Grainger on Sunday they aren't going to get a long interview. And 150-200 would have wished to attend a public meeting, judging by previous ones.

On Grainger's expertise - what is this exactly? Do they know anything about Garden Suburbs? Ecology? Community planning?

Why the change in format at such short notice? I have just called Grainger's to enquire and have been informed that they are booking 10 minute time slots. So, if they start at 10.00am and finish at 5.00pm they'll only be able to meet up with 42 people. Is this not just an attempt to 'water down' the current strength of feeling about the proposals and to shift it away from an open forum? I urge everyone to book a time slot to demonstrate how impractical this format is.

how very convenient, Graingers once again trying to avoid a problem, by first issuing the plans and letter for an open meeting, then at the eleventh hour changing it !!!

surely they are not going back on their origonal plans are they ?

how very interesting I have just booked a personal appointment for this sunday and then realised that I may not be able to attend the time, the response from the helpfull lady at Graingers .... not a porblem we can call you back today or any time conveient to you and discuss any issues or thoughts you may have over the phone !!!!

WHY can this not be the case any how and have the open public meeting this sunday as origonally planned ?!?!?!!?

Well at last the letter has come through the door. However, it is very rude to give such short notice about the change.
Graingers must remember that if there is not an open meeting that takes place, there will not have been consultation with the public and they will have no right to proceed
